They call it a monster. They bring sonar and cameras, scanning the black water for a beast to capture. But here at the Englandbear workshop, we listen to the older stories. We know that she is not a monster to be hunted, but a guardian to be respected.<\/span><\/p>

Her name is <\/span>Niseag<\/span><\/strong> (pronounced <\/span>Nee-shack<\/span><\/em>). And she is the Keeper of the Deep Silence.<\/span><\/p>

The Mystery of the Hidden Sea<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>

But Scottish folklore whispers that the Loch is not a closed circle. Ancient legends speak of \"Subterranean Tides\"\u2014vast, secret tunnels deep beneath the earth that connect the freshwater of the Loch to the salt of the open ocean.<\/span><\/p>

It is said that these tunnels are the \"Hidden Sea,\" the secret highways of the deep. But the dark water is not empty. If you look closely at our latest Dark Academia art release, you will see Niseag is not alone. She is surrounded by glowing, jellyfish-like lights.<\/span><\/p>

Biology tells us jellyfish do not live in fresh water. But folklore tells a different story.<\/span><\/p>

The Legend of the Star Jelly<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>

These were believed to be the remnants of stars that had fallen from the heavens.<\/span><\/p>

Our new legend asks: <\/span>What happens when a star falls into the deep water?<\/span><\/em><\/p>

In the Englandbear canon, Niseag\u2019s duty is not to scare tourists. She is the Star-Returner. Just as the Badger and the Owl are the Constellation Keepers of the sky, Niseag is the guardian of the reflection below. When the stars fall into the cold waters of the Highlands, they do not fade. They transform into \"Witchlights\"\u2014bioluminescent, jellyfish-like spirits seeking a way home. Niseag, the ancient guardian, shepherds these lost pilgrims of light through the secret subterranean tunnels, guiding them safely back to the cosmic mirror of the ocean.<\/span><\/p>

She navigates the dark not by sight, but by the light of the stars she saves.<\/span><\/p>

A Design for the Kindred Spirit<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>

Inspired by the Bio-Magic aesthetic and the moody atmosphere of Dark Academia, we wanted to move away from the \"cartoony\" Nessie of gift shops. We wanted to capture the \"Deep Time\" of the Highlands\u2014the feeling of standing by the water at twilight, where the air is cold and the mystery is real.<\/span><\/p>
